1. Agreement to these Terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and Matcha Productivity ("matcha.," "we," "us"), covering your use of the matcha. mobile app, website at trymatcha.org, and related services (together, the "Service").
By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. Who can use matcha.
Minimum age. You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. We do not knowingly permit anyone under 13 to create an account. If we learn that a user is under 13, we will delete the account and associated data.
Users under 18. If you are under 18, you may use the Service only with the knowledge and permission of a parent or legal guardian, and your parent or guardian must review and agree to these Terms on your behalf. By using the Service as a minor, you represent that you have obtained that permission.
Parents and guardians. A parent or guardian who consents to a minor's use of the Service agrees to these Terms on the minor's behalf and is responsible for the minor's activity on the Service.
One account per person. Accounts are personal. Do not share your login, and do not create an account for someone else.
3. What matcha. does
The Service aggregates information from tools you already use — your school's assignment portal and your calendar — and uses AI to help you plan your day, track assignments and commitments, and generate study material.
We may add, change, or remove features at any time. Some features described in marketing materials may be in development, limited release, or unavailable in your region or school.
4. Connecting third-party accounts
You authorize the connection. The Service is only useful if you connect it to accounts you already have — Google Calendar, Microsoft 365, StudentVUE, or Edlink ("Connected Services"). When you connect one, you authorize us to read from that account on your behalf, using the permissions you grant. We request read-only access to your calendars and we do not write to them.
You must have the right to connect it. You represent that each account you connect is yours, or that you are otherwise authorized to grant us access to it. Do not connect accounts belonging to other people, and do not connect school-issued accounts if your school's acceptable-use policy prohibits third-party access.
Their terms still apply. Connected Services are operated by third parties under their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for their availability, accuracy, or conduct, and a Connected Service may change or terminate our access at any time, with or without notice.
Disconnecting. You can disconnect any Connected Service at any time in the app. Disconnecting stops future syncing; see the Privacy Policy for what happens to data we already received.
Credentials. Where a Connected Service supports OAuth — Google Calendar, Microsoft 365, and Edlink — we use it, and we never see or store your password for those accounts.
StudentVUE is the exception, and you should understand it before connecting. Your district's Synergy portal has no public API and no OAuth, so connecting it means giving us your StudentVUE username and password, which we store encrypted and replay to your district on your behalf each time we sync. We hold it because the portal offers no other way in.
5. AI-generated content
Large parts of the Service are powered by AI, including daily plans, priority ordering, summaries, flashcards, quizzes, explanations, and homework feedback.
AI can be wrong. AI output may be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, or misleading, even when it sounds confident. It may misread a due date, miss a schedule change, or explain a concept incorrectly.
You are responsible for your own work and deadlines. Do not rely on the Service as your only source of truth for anything that matters. Always confirm assignments, due dates, tests, practices, and events against the original source — your teacher, coach, syllabus, or school portal. matcha. is a planning aid, not a guarantee.
Not professional advice. The Service does not provide medical, mental health, legal, financial, or professional college admissions advice. Nothing it generates is a substitute for a qualified professional.
Not for emergencies. The Service is not an emergency service and is not monitored by humans in real time. If you are in crisis or someone's safety is at risk, contact local emergency services or a crisis line. In the US you can call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline).
6. Academic integrity
matcha. is designed to help you learn, not to do your work for you. Our homework support is built to give hints, guidance, and explanations rather than finished answers.
You are solely responsible for complying with your school's academic honesty policy. Those policies vary widely, and some prohibit AI assistance that others permit. Using the Service in a way that violates your school's rules is a violation of these Terms.
Do not use the Service to complete graded work you are required to do unaided, to produce work you will submit as entirely your own without permitted assistance, or to help anyone else do either of those things.
7. Your content
You own it. You keep ownership of the notes, goals, uploads, questions, and other material you create or provide ("Your Content"), and of the data we sync from your Connected Services.
License to operate the Service. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, copy, transmit, display, and process Your Content solely to operate, secure, and improve the Service for you, and to provide the features you request. This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for backups and where we are required to retain something by law.
We do not sell Your Content, and we do not use it to train third-party AI models. See the Privacy Policy for details on how AI providers process your data on our behalf.
Uploads. Do not upload material you do not have the right to share. Copyrighted textbooks, workbooks, exams, and other course material may be protected — uploading them may violate your school's rules or the publisher's rights, and you are responsible for what you upload.
8. Acceptable use
Do not:
- Use the Service if you are under 13, or without required parental permission if you are under 18.
- Access another person's account or data, or impersonate anyone.
- Harass, bully, threaten, sexualize, or endanger any other user, including any minor.
- Solicit personal contact information from, or attempt to meet offline with, a minor you met through the Service.
- Use the Service to break the law, violate your school's policies, or violate the terms of any Connected Service.
- Scrape, reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code or model weights, or use automated tools to access the Service outside of a documented API.
- Probe, scan, overload, or interfere with the Service's infrastructure or security, or bypass rate limits, filters, or safety systems.
- Attempt to make the Service produce harmful, illegal, or sexual content, including through prompt injection or by planting instructions in synced content.
- Resell, sublicense, or commercially redistribute the Service or its output without our written permission.
We may investigate suspected violations and may suspend or terminate access at our discretion. We may report conduct that endangers a child to law enforcement or NCMEC.
9. Fees
The Service is currently free. We may introduce paid plans or paid features in the future. If we do, we will give you notice before charging you, and paid features will be clearly identified with their own billing terms before you purchase. We will never charge a minor's payment method without the account holder's authorization.
10. Suspension and termination
By you. You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from your account settings, or by writing to support@trymatcha.org.
By us. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, if we are required to by law, if your conduct creates risk to another user, or if we discontinue the Service. Where practical, we will give you notice and a chance to export your data.
Effect. On termination, your right to use the Service ends. Sections 5, 6, 7 (license survival for backups), 11, 12, 13, and 14 survive.
11. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and any warranty that the Service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, accurate, or error-free.
We do not warrant that plans, reminders, notifications, grades, due dates, or synced data will be complete or correct. Sync depends on third-party systems we do not control. Missing a deadline, test, practice, or event is your responsibility, not ours.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimers, so some of the above may not apply to you.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Matcha Productivity and its founders, officers, employees, and volunteers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost grades, lost opportunities, lost data, or lost profits, arising from or relating to the Service.
Our total aggregate liability for all claims relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or (b) USD 100.
Some jurisdictions do not allow these limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for fraud, gross negligence, or personal injury caused by our negligence.
13. Indemnification
If you are 18 or older, or if you are the parent or guardian agreeing to these Terms on behalf of a minor, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Matcha Productivity from claims, damages, and reasonable legal fees arising from your violation of these Terms, your misuse of the Service, or content you upload.
14. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.
Any dispute relating to these Terms or the Service will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in King County, Washington, and you and we each consent to personal jurisdiction there.
Nothing in this section prevents either party from seeking injunctive relief in court, or prevents you from bringing a claim in small claims court, or from filing a complaint with a government agency.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. If we make a material change, we will notify you in the app or by email at least 14 days before it takes effect, and update the "Last updated" date above. Continuing to use the Service after the change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms. If you do not accept them, stop using the Service and delete your account.
16. Miscellaneous
Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service.
Severability. If a provision is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
No waiver. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it.
Assignment. You may not assign these Terms. We may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to the commitments in our Privacy Policy.
